Hermitage Academy is the largest school in Argyll and Bute and the catchment area includes the town of Helensburgh and the villages of Cardross, Rhu, Shandon, Garelochhead, Clynder, Rosneath, Kilcreggan, Arrochar, Tarbet and Luss. It also includes other rural areas and it stretches from the Firth of Clyde, to Loch Lomond and as far as the Rest and Be Thankful. Uniquely the school catchment area straddles the Highland Boundary Fault Line and can therefore be described as both a Lowland and a Highland school.
The current school roll is 1350 pupils and almost 100 teaching staff. Hermitage Academy has ten associated primary schools, namely ; Arrochar, Cardross, Colgrain, John Logie Baird, Hermitage, Garelochhead, Rosneath, Luss, Rhu and Kilcreggan. The school also has close links with Parklands School in Helensburgh. The school is a non-denominational, comprehensive school which strives to promote excellence in every area. It seeks to provide a quality education for all pupils and celebrates the achievements of its pupils, both academic attainment and wider achievements. Hermitage Academy moved to the new campus in February 2008 and we have been delighted with our new school.
The new school has been constructed on a Greenfield site 500 metres to the east of the old school. It not only provides a spectacular gateway building for people entering the town of Helensburgh from the east but it also provides first class facilities for Learning and Teaching.
The facilities, which has a capacity for 1700 pupils, include a large social area / hall with seating for 600 people, a separate assembly hall for 300 people, a very large library, with spectacular views, first class teaching areas, IT facilities throughout the school, a games hall, two gymnasia, dance studio, fitness suite and two astroturf pitches. These facilities are also available for Community use. Please contact Community Learning and Regeneration on 01436 670481 for booking availablity, prices and conditions.
These new facilities will allow the school to build on its very good reputation both locally and nationally and provide a first class education for the Helensburgh and Lomond area.
