Welcome to the Art and Design Department The Department has high expectations in both attainment and achievement. Pupils are encouraged to work creatively, to express ideas and to improve skills within the context of 5-14, S. Grade and NQ courses. Motivation, self-reliance, and the ability to demonstrate independence are highly valued and the department seeks to support pupils in developing transferable skills required for further challenges. Courses The S1 and S2 course is currently based on 5-14 guidelines. Pupils follow a common course with each year group being allocated two periods a week in the department. Pupils experience a wide variety of activities including- drawing, painting, printing, 3D, the design process, enterprise and critical evaluation. Pupils have the opportunity to work individually and in groups and are encouraged to display ‘best’ work, in the department and around the school.
In S3 and S4 pupils follow the Standard Grade course and are allocated three periods a week in the department. T course is organised around three core areas:
Each area has an equal rating for assessment. Formal assessment by the SQA takes place in S4. In S5/6 the department offer Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2, Higher and Advanced Higher NQ courses. Pupils are allocated five periods a week in the department, Attainment in SQA examinations is high with many pupils progressing to further and higher education. Courses in Recreational Art and Design and Creativity are available to S5/6 pupils. The Enterprise Company within the school is run by a member of Art and Design staff.
Staff, in the department are involved in many activities including; Activity day trips, Educational visits, the Georgia exchange trip, school shows and events, competitions and exhibitions. Recent success the department has been involved are as follows...
