The Computing Department offers a range of courses from S2 ICT core skills, through Standard Grade, Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2, Higher and Advanced Higher. Progression is available regardless of the pupil's initial starting point. The department also offers the NQ Internet Safety (Int1) course.
S2 ICT Core Skills Within this course the pupils have the opportunity to use the main types of application software which they are likely to use across the curriculum. These include:
Embedded within the course are the techniques needed to search for and collate information from the internet, along with the study of the main pieces of hardware used with a computer system.
Examples of S2 graphics work Standard Grade Computing This course covers the topics of General Purpose Packages, Commercial & Industrial Applications, Computer Systems and Programming. It allows the pupils to look at how computers are used in a wide variety of applications, as well as learning how to program them. This course can then be followed in S5 by one of the NQ courses available. Intermediate 1 Computing This course consists of three units:
Intermediate 2 Computing This course follows on from Standard Grade and focuses on the three areas of
Entry requirements are a Grade 3 or 4 from Standard Grade Higher Computing This course follows on from Standard Grade and focuses on the three areas of Advanced Higher Computing This follows on from Higher, allowing pupils to further develop their skills in software development by applying them to an extended coursework task, as well as developing further knowledge relating to Artificial Intelligence.
