COURSE DESCRIPTION

Uniformed and Emergency Services (Intermediate 1)

This course is designed to provide opportunities for students to develop core skills and enhancing skills and attitudes for employability in the context of uniformed and emergency services.  There will be a requirement for the student to attend activities involving Uniformed and Emergency Services personnel and visit local organisations.

Key areas of the course would include;

-         Investigating different uniformed and emergency services roles and responsibilities.

-         Practical participation in activities that promote improvements in personal fitness.

-         Investigating skills required when dealing with unexpected situations.

-         Identify possible impacts on stereotyping within a community and explore confrontation management.

-         Obtain local views on current issues relating to uniformed and emergency services.

-         Team work and the roles / responsibilities of team members and team leaders.

One group of students are now in their second year and have all agreed that not only does it provide them with a clear understanding of what is involved in a career in a Uniformed and Emergency Service but what is required generally to be a “good” employee.  The employability skills learnt will enable them to go on and develop a career in any sector of employment as the tools they have developed can be used in any industry.
