School Holidays
A reminder that there are no further holidays or inservice days this term and the school finishes on Friday 28th June at 1pm.
The usual end of May holiday weekend was replaced with a two week break last October.
Uniform Update
Due to the success of our Blazer fitting evenings we plan to hold another event on Monday 3rd of June. Academy Uniforms will be available to carry out blazer fittings from 4-7 pm. This is open to any pupil who is yet to purchase a blazer. They will also bring with them any orders that have been placed, ready for collection.
All pupils have been issued with a leaflet explaining the changes to the school uniform that will take place for August 2013. The changes are not as wideranging and draconian as are currently rumoured. There will be an introduction of blazers for all pupils and a change to the Senior School Tie ( for the new Curriculum for Excellence Senior School S4-6). The colours of the school badge have been altered slightly and there will be a new Prefects' tie introduced.
Details of prices and fitting sessions are explainined in the leaflet. Parents and pupils have been consulted on this matter through the Parent Council, the PTA and the Pupil Council and other pupil groups.

Congratulations to Hermitage Academy Debating Society’s Junior team on their success in the latest round of The Big Green Challenge Debating Competition.
The motion being debated was:
This House believes that renewable energy is crucial to nation’s energy security.
Both Hermitage Academy teams were victorious against opposition from Lomond School in two closely contested heats. However, there could only be one winner and the team chosen to progress to the next round consisted of Cameron King, Rebecca Friels and Lauren Fletcher.
Congratulations also to the runners up: Jarod Barrett, Ellis Kinloch and Hayden Cameron.
Thank you also to our Senior School timekeepers Leah Balmforth and Rachael Gammon.

The winning team will now debate against other Highlands and Islands Schools in the prestigious Grand Final Event to be held in Edinburgh in The Scottish Parliament on June 7th.
Good luck!

World Book Day
S1 pupils and staff at Hermitage Academy celebrated World Book Day on Thursday 7th March. As part of the school’s World Book Day celebrations, the English department and S1 pupils came to school dressed as a character from a book. There was a wonderful and inventive array of costumes, and plenty of well-deserved prizes were handed out to pupils for their inventiveness. Lots of fun was had throughout the day and it was a real celebration of reading. Every pupil in S1 was gifted a book from the school. Pupils were given time during classes to enjoy their new books. We want to congratulate S1 on making World Book Day the success it was and look forward to reading reviews of their new novels. Happy reading and well done!

School Opening Times
Parents and pupils are reminded that the school buildings open at 8.30am. The reason for this is that cleaning takes place in the corridors, stairs. toilets and other areas, up until that time. Therefore for Health and Safety reasons (wet floors, trailing cables, access to toilets etc), pupils should plan to arrive at the school not earlier than 8.30am.
