Wonderful World Book Day

S1 enjoyed a full filled day celebrating their passion for reading. Pupils and staff donned their finest fancy dress to mark the momentous occasion. World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading. The English Department’s aim is to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by provide them with the opportunity to have a book of their own. Each S1 pupil was gifted a book from the Academy and every S1-S3 pupil was given a £1 gift token that entitles each of them to a free £1 World Book Day Book or a £1 discount on a book of their choice.

Well done to everyone involved. We had a fabulous day of literature and laughs.

The English Department.

Well done to all those involved in the first edition of the S1 newspaper- The S1 Star.

The budding S1 journalists worked tirelessly over a four week period to produce a fantastic record of the events and issues concerning S1 pupils.

The newspaper has now sold out but if you would like to read a copy it is printed on our English page. You should also look out for our 2nd edition which will have an Easter theme.

Congratulations to all involved on producing a successful newspaper!

Hermitage Academy - Parents, Teachers Association

The next PTA meeting will take place on Monday 3rd March at 7pm in the Staffroom.

The second of our Big Debates on Scottish independence took place on Thursday 23rd January.

The motion being debated wasThis House believes that an independent Scotland would improve the health and welfare of the Scottish people’.  Following a closely-contested debate, the Proposition team of Euan Furness, Fraser MacFarlane and Tabitha Weir emerged victorious over Michael Curley, Robbie Cordner and Aaron Murphy of the Opposition.

Enormous credit is once again due to the speakers, who showed tremendous confidence in front of a packed assembly hall.  Well done to all.  Thank you also to our judges, Mr Morgan and Mr Cassells, and to all staff and pupils who attended.

We look forward to the next debate, which will take place in March.
