Hermitage Academy Parent Council

As a parent or guardian of a child at the Academy, you are automatically a member of the Parent Forum.  The Parent Council, which was formed at the end of 2007, is the representative body of the Forum and its primary roles are to:

  • Support the school in its work with pupils;
  • Represent the views of all parents;
  • Encourage links between the school, parents, pupils, and the wider community;
  • Report back to the Parent Forum.

There are currently eight parents/guardians on the council: Roddy Muir (Chairperson), Sandra Latham (Vice-Chair), and six others. We also have one co-opted member, Adam Plenderleith who is one of the school chaplains. Councillor Andrew Nisbett is also a co-opted member of the Parent Council. Members of the council are elected for three years.

 The council meet about six times during the school year to discuss a variety of topics related to the running of the school, mainly focussing on issues that might be of concern to parents. Over the past few months, topics for discussion have included: Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) results, the School Improvement Plan, Parents Evenings/Open Nights and Traffic Control around the school. The meetings are also attended by Mr Urie (Headteacher), and Mrs Stuart (Formal Depute).

 A copy of the Constitution of the Parent Council and Minutes from the Parent Council meetings can be found on the School Website: www.hermitageacademy.argyll-bute.sch.uk.

 If you would like more information on the role of the Parent Council, or to chat about joining the team then please do not hesitate to contact the Chairperson, Roddy Muir ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) or any other council member.  Messages can be left at the school office. We’d also like to hear from you if you have any concerns, suggestions or ideas about the school that you think would be of interest to other parents. Even if you don’t want to join the team, as a member of the parent forum you are entitled to attend the Parent Council meetings and listen to the discussions.

 Please note that any concerns about your own child at Hermitage Academy should be raised directly with their guidance teacher at the school (Tel. 01436 672145).
