School of Champions 

The school has adopted the byeline “School of Champions” and here are some of the reasons

• The staff and pupils of this school are very successful in many ways.
• William James said "By and large you become what you think you are"
• Richard Bach said, "In order to win, you must expect to win." That is the secret of success. If you believe in yourself, you can achieve your goals. Belief has the power to transcend all hurdles, real and imaginary.
• If you think you are a Champion – you will become a Champion .......but

 What is a champion?

Most people think of a champion as:

• a person of a team that comes in 1st place
• a winner
• someone who does his best
• a person who is proud of his accomplishments
• someone who gets recognition
• a success

 But at Hermitage Academy we use a slightly different definition of the word:

A champion is a person, a team, or an organisation that succeeds in gaining or achieving a difficult goal and is proud of that achievement.

 How can a school be a champion?

We promote a philosophy that results in achieving goals and having its staff and pupils feel part of that achievement and feel good about it.

 Do you always have to be first to be a champion?

No. If a person exceeds his expectations in a competition such that he or she feels proud of their performance and accomplishment, then they will feel like a champion, even though he may not have won the competition. Even coming to school in the morning, overcoming health or other problems can make you a Champion. Look around you and see how many people you can see that are displaying Champion characteristics. Often they are not boastful, but are quietly confident in their achievements.

 Who determines if you are a champion?

You alone determine that you are a champion.

 What about other people's opinions?

If others acknowledge that you are a champion, you feel even better yet.

Remember it is difficult to say "School of Champions" without smiling - so smile and become a Hermitage Champion !
